What radio is required?
A GPS signal is required for the G5. The G5 contains an internal GPS receiver that can be connected to a GPS antenna or optionally can use external GPS input if available. The G5 requires GPS for attitude aiding, and can also be used to provide ground track and ground speed. The G5 can use the Glare Shield Mounted GPS Antenna (010-12444-10) or GPS data from an approved GPS navigator or a GPS-enabled GTX 3x5 transponder. Here's a list of compatible navigators with the G5:
- GTN 6XX/7XX(Xi) Series
- GNS 4XX/5XX Series with WAAS
- GNS 480 Series
- GTX 335/345 w/GPS transponder with software version 2.10 or later
- GPS 175/GNX 375/GNC 355
Note: It is possible to connect to both a Glare Shield Mounted GPS Antenna via a coaxial cable and a GPS navigator over RS-232 simultaneously.
Note: In a dual G5 installation, only the G5 Attitude requires the GPS antenna connection. The GPS information is communicated to the G5 DG/HSI over the CAN bus.
